A Song of Compassion

With a soul blood bought and a heart aglow.

Redeemed of the Lord and free,

I ask as I pass down the busy street,

Is it only a crowd I see;

Do I lift my eyes with a careless gaze,

That pieces no deep down woe,

Have I naught to give to the teeming throng

Of the wealth of the love I know?

O Thou of Little Faith

O thou of little faith,
God hath not failed thee yet!
When all looks dark and gloomy,
Thou dost so soon forget-

Forget that He has led thee,
And gently cleared thy way;
On clouds has poured His sunshine,
And turned thy night to day.

And if He’s helped thee hitherto,
He will not fail thee now;
How it must wound His loving heart To see thy anxious brow!

Oh! Doubt not any longer, To Him commit thy way,
Whom in the past thou trusted,
And is “just the same today.”

Paradox

When Thou hast mastered me,

Then shall I be victor;

When Thou hast enslaved me,

Then shall I be free.

Quietness

 “Be still and know that I am God,”

That I who made and gave thee life

Will lead thy faltering steps aright;

That I who see each sparrow’s fall

Will hear and heed thy earnest call.

God Knoweth

I know not what awaits,
God kindly veils mine eyes,
And o’er each step of my onward way
He makes new scenes to rise;
And every joy he sends me, comes
A sweet and glad surprise.

Prayer for Humility

Humble, Lord, my haughty spirit, Bid my swelling thoughts subside; Strip me of my fancied merit: What have I to do with pride? Was my Saviour meek and lowly? And shall such a worm as I,

Weak, and earthly, and unholy, Dare to lift my head on high?

Teach me, Lord, my true condition; Bring me childlike to thy knee; Stripped of every low ambition, Willing to be led by thee.

Guide me by thy Holy Spirit Feed me from thy blessed word: All my wisdom, all my merit, Borrowed from thyself, O Lord!

Like a little babe, confiding, Simple, docile, let me be; Trusting still to thy providing, Willing to be led by thee.
Thus my all to thee submitting, I am thine and not my own; And when earthly hopes are flitting,

Rest secure on God alone.

He Faileth Not

Each happy morn when I awake,
This promise for the day I take,
“I’ll never leave thee, nor forsake,”
He faileth not.

What Would He Say?

If He should come today,

And find my hands so full of future plans, however fair,

In which my Saviour has no share,

What would He say?
